The Unseen by Roy Jacobsen
Shortlisted for The Man Booker International Prize, The Unseen is a story set on a speck of an Island off the Norwegian coast at the beginning of the 20th Century.
The book follows the lives of the Barroy family as they endure the hardships and revel in the simple but incomparable joys of their island life. However the world around them is changing and when tragedy strikes they find themselves caught in a battle between holding on to the familiar world they know and being forced to rethink their future.
I was swept away with the dramatic setting, strong characters and steady pace of this book.
It is beautifully written and I highly recommend it.
